Innerspace Halflife Tour early 2013

5.7.13

It has been a minute since I have updated this space with a post, but I had to decompress from the EU trip. Overall the trip consisted of seven countries in little under two months. I rocked dj sets and live PAs as Innerspace Halflife. In the previous post Stockholm was rocked, so now we are back at our base in Berlin as we rock T Room session.

During the next week before I go to Brescia, Italy to play Disco Volante.

Chairs

Chairs

After experiencing Brescia for a short time, I drink some fine wine and home cooked food. Thinking about how special Italy is in general, I got to get down on some rotary knobs and snapped off.

Disco Volante

Disco Volante

I figured I would beat them down with the Jack, some official Chicago shit. Unfortunately none of my set was recorded but it will live on in the peeps in attendance minds. I ride back out to Berlin.

While in Berlin we take in some more history and culture before adding to the culture and rocking at the legendary club called Tresor.

Tresor

Tresor

This place is located in an old power station which is responsible for breaking in some of the earliest Techno djs to Europe.

Live PA

Live PA

I am still house though, however it was an honor to play this show in which I rocked the drum machine and played records…from here Hamburg awaits.

Hamburg

Hamburg

The Smallville crew welcomes us as we ride up north to rock a live PA.

Smallville

Smallville

Interesting place as we get to see more of regular Germany and not the enigma called Berlin. The people were very receptive as we closed down the Golden Pudel at 7am on a Thursday night. The Hamburg party people know what’s up as we rocked the live beats for them.

Pudel

Pudel

Berlin is calling again for a few days as I finish recording an album called Reverse Digital Files and Paris comes into the mix.

In Paris, we got to play records at one of the hottest parties in France. Concrete was off the hook as hundreds of people checked out the set and got down.

Concrete

Concrete

Paris is definitely full of flavor, with people from all over contributing to the mix. Young inspired artists exists everywhere as we make way through Paris soaking in the intensive art and culture.

Dali

Seeing this beautiful city we were in for another treat as we train it to Bordeaux.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux

Park

Park

Laid back chilled Bordeaux accepted us with open arms as we shared much food, wine, and culture. Again we got to play records on the iBoat and rock a live PA at Bootleg.

Young generation of party people was there to check us out. The spot was rocked as we made our way up to Manchester.

The north English kick it hard, arriving here we had to go straight to the venue and sound check. However once the party got going it was an Innerspace Halflife take over. There were two PA sessions and two record playing sets involved, we did not leave that party until late morning and people were still going.

Innerspace Halflife

Innerspace Halflife

Whoa is all I have to say, as the Mancunians like there baselines hard and dirty. Me to, me too. Berlin is calling again.

Berlin

Berlin

We rock StudioR and then I rock Prince Charles for Soulmate.

Meanwhile I take in the German culture and partake in eating some döner amongst other German eats. Going out to a few parties and meeting with some peeps I then make my way to Bucharest which is trippy.

Bucharest

Bucharest

The Romanians also know how to get down and party. It is a most peculiar place because of the feral dog situation. Though they are regularly scenery to the locals I however am always astonished when I see these packs. The party was great and met up with some nice friends as I got to rock a proper club. Berlin is calling again…

Learning much about German culture I realize I need to take some German classes and get some real practice, this is a nice thought. I then think of this long last leg of the trip. London is next for a week.

London Calling

London Calling

It is very cold and heat comes when Innerspace Halflife comes in to rock Boiler Room, which was a pleasure to say the least. We shared the stage with some serious producers and live acts. It was a solid experience.

Then we rock a dj set at the NTS station for the radio show, banging tunes all Innerspace Halflife.

Later we make another attempt to take over the Dance Tunnel with a live PA and dj sets. Meanwhile taking in all the culture. Amsterdam comes up next as we are winding down.

Not knowing what to expect but realizing that Dutch people have to be one of the tallest groups of humans alive we come here for one day to rock Club Up.

Club Up

Club Up

Very bizarre times but met some great people all the while. Rocking a live PA then we take the train through Belgium to rock our last show in Paris.

There is little time to spare as we take in some more French culture before we go to our last event. Batofar is in south Paris and is banging boat party. Feeling lucky to be back in beautiful Paris as we end with a serious live PA session.

Wine & Spirits

Wine & Spirits

After an amazing time and getting some chops on the International stage our trip comes to and end. I met lots of wonderful people and touched and was touched by many people and much music. Must say it was a life changing event, hope to do it again some day.

Read the prose here, and enjoy as there is more great music to come this year from myself and the labels.

Sound Extravagance EP

mdreams009

009 materializing, this time from G. Marcell titled Sound Extravagance EP. Five musical compositions that are firmly rooted in Chicago but offer much variety to the romanticized concept. G. Marcell’s beats hold true to his home town production ethos with sampling, beating arrangement, and spoken word. This aforementioned variety in sound brings great depth to this 12″. Judge for yourself as we get to the soundwaves:

Beatbr8ker///begins with lonely synth string arpeggios that lead into banging drum beats. Interesting movement is a constant as the arpeggiation continues to reinvent itself over and over like an acid line.

SubDivision///beating bassline and drums begin this journey. Marcell portrays great style in minimalist track arrangements as the samples offer the attention with relentless banging drums and bass.

2MinutePleasure///is an interlude that offers the filter sound of the 90′s.

She’s Fly (Lover Her Conversation Mix)///pulsating old beats begin as the bassline sounds in 12/4, spoken word is begun and piano melodies swirl around to make your head bounce.

UFuseDude///idiosyncratic melodies sound out as the drums move in the background. Droning pads ride underneath the surface as the bassline bounces with long notes.

Chris Mitchell is up next on Vanguard Sound with a solo piece called Phrenetic EP. A four track 12″ that shows off Chris’ versatility as each track has a different style and feel. Some new music from the American south that is making waves as Chris is creating his own sound. Check the prose from the one sheet:

Vanguard Sound is back with its newest record. Chris Mitchell‘s Phrenetic EP is Vanguard Sounds second release. Coming on the heels of the wildly popular Vanguard Sound Vol. 3, this EP continues to uphold the aesthetic created with the first release, while simultaneously expanding it. The Phrenetic EP features four tracks from the mind and studio of a quickly rising North American talent that all walk the fine line between house and techno. All are very complex rhythmically, with both banging drums, and lush tones. A perfect 3 way marriage of classic Chicago, Detroit, and New York vibrations, the record contains set peaks, as well as transitional tracks that allow DJs to traverse from house to techno and back. Already receiving massive amounts of positive feedback, this EP is proving to be a more than worthy follow up to VS001.

Phrenetic///Floating synths stabs appear as the percussion hits, later joined by another synth line to round out this banger.

Lazerdrive///Bumping bass sounds with a matching synth are driving the track. Suddenly a stuttering voice appears that adds more flavor to the tune.

California///Definitely a west coast sound; guitar riffs sound, a vocal phrase appears, and finally a chord progression comes in with percussion driving it along.

Y.I.C.U.///Synths and bass begin the last track as a filter voice saying Y.I.C.U. floats the forefront. Later more synth lines appear as the vocal gets longer as the tune fills up.

Alarma Stamp

Mentiras Politico Side B

mdreams007 B side

007 appears as a nasty, crunchy vinyl that will be smashing woofers at a beatdown pace. Alarma! who is an alias of DJ Spider brings out a socially conscious two track single that explores the violent imagery of modern society through beats. Taking from the album Escrito Con Sangre, this excerpt offers two glimpses into the murky waters of Alarma! Crunchy keys and atmosphere dail up an emotive ride for people with the slower bio rhythms. Titled Mentiras Politico or in English Political Lies is designed to be very emotive and minimal while later becoming full of textures. Lots of thought went into the production, all with one goal in mind of informing the masses about the violence of contemporary society and the doings of governments decision to let corporations run the show as they poison the population. Clasificado and Declasificado are here for this instance meant to wake up the people, hence Alarma! is born on vinyl.

Clasificado!///Erie piano keys sounds but yet the melody continues to get sweeter as the delay runs. Crunchy atmosphere strikes like a rain storm as the beatdown journey moves forward for 10 minutes.

HR8791!///Moments from usual business in Congress.

Declasificado!///Staccato strings begin with fuzzy atmosphere that suddenly becomes lush chords, similar to its sibling tune on the A side, prepare for another 10 minute journey of beats, keys, and atmosphere.

Reptil!///Knowledge dropped about mammal and reptil hybrids

Modyfier Process Series – Part 291

Part 291

Modyfier Process Series 291

Ah yes, after a hiatus on posting to Machining Dreams; Happy New Year. In this edition I am writing about a podcast I did for the great blog Modyfier with creative process as the main theme. I remember getting excited after I was first contacted and read the invitation text, which is a work of proper prose. The blog with its art and layout has a great design and feel to it, so I decided to contribute and dig into the vaults to mix up my own tunes. The mix was a self-reflection exercise – a way to look at how my process is progressing.

My prose on Modyfier is located here with this mix:

So if you feel, check it out and hear some of my existence.

Steven Tang is back on Emphasis Recordings with another 12″ from him using his Tang moniker titled Bass Synergy. I am a little late on the draw as this record dropped back in July; however in the usually Emphasis style, this release is classic and I think worthy of attention anytime. Check the sounds below and get the full feel:

Bass Synergy///Begins with a nice melody line that is quickly joined by warm strings, and then a second synth comes in to lead you back to the original theme of the song. Tang delivers a glowing track with moving drums and a feeling of brightness.

Drone///Is a fast pace heater that begins with some drums followed by a quickly struck synth line that rocks all the way through the tune. Definitely a track for the people who are trying to bang out the party.

Synchronism///Ends this project with a playful pad that builds into a happy sounding synth line. Then more strings arrive to complete the music spectrum. Deep House with that Techno feel right here!

If you missed it, check for it now!

Number 006 is materializing from Amir Alexander, who presents a deep project called Interdimensional Transit EP. Moving through the worm hole, a track materializes at each stop offering emotive tunes that pull at your senses. Alexander shows off his skills as you travel into four different universes encompassed within four House yet Techno musical adventures.

White Rhino (deep down beat down)///Begins the journey with an up tempo banger in which the bass syncopates ever so nicely. A message about the White Rhino ensues quickly and more synths come to take you on a space age trip.

Transcend///Smooth synth line with a deep kick; leads us to gritty yet soft pads that build and build as vision of stars are created by waveforms.

Deep Within///Bassline and melodies blare out as the beat pulsates, and out of no where a voice comes up from deep within the darkness.

The Abyss///Ending the journey is a super deep tunes that relaxes your mind, as you go deeper and deeper with the bassline, chords, and vocals…
